From file to chart
Make it part
of your chart.
Install your indicator, understand the reading, and choose the alerts that matter to your process.
1. Get your file.
Download Compass for free. No email, invite, or payment is needed.
For Trend, buy the current release for $10. After payment, Stripe returns you to a secure page that verifies your purchase and provides the file.
2. Add it to TradingView.
- Open the downloaded .pine file in a text editor and copy all of its code.
- Open a TradingView chart, then open Pine Editor.
- Create a new indicator. Select all the starter code and replace it with the complete TrendArc code.
- Select Save, give your script a name, then select Add to chart.
Use TradingView on desktop for the clearest installation workflow. Your TradingView account determines the chart intervals and alert capacity available to you.
Check your first chart.
Use these checks after adding Compass. Your selections reset when this page reloads; this checklist does not submit installation data.
0 of 3 checks complete.
Read Compass.
Compass compares price, EMA 21, and session VWAP. The card displays the most recently closed bar’s state.
Up / Down
Up: price above EMA, EMA above VWAP, and EMA rising. Down: the reverse alignment, with EMA falling.
Neutral
Neither directional stack fully aligns. It means mixed structure, rather than a measured probability of a sideways market.
Extended
Price is at least 1.5 ATR 14 from session VWAP. Extension is independent of direction and does not predict a reversal.
Waiting
Valid reference data is unavailable. Allow enough chart history to load and check that your feed supplies usable volume.
In indicator settings, choose Compact or Standard and any chart corner. If using both products, choose different corners so their cards do not overlap.
Compass uses intraday session VWAP. Its EMA and ATR lengths count chart bars, so changing your interval changes their meaning.
Read Trend v6.
The combined release brings a bold center line, twelve fading outer lines, and a soft halo into one indicator. One state badge and one set of chart arrows keep the reading together.
Color shows direction.
Green means Up, red means Down, and gray means Neutral. The price-based Trend model determines the state. Neutral means insufficient directional control, even if price is moving.
Outer lines show range.
The six pairs around the center widen as smoothed ATR, a measure of price range, increases. They can expand in green, red, or gray. VWAP and volume do not directly set their spacing.
The halo adds context.
In directional states, normalized trend strength and smoothed relative volume shape the soft band’s width and visibility. ATR also scales its width. This is a visual measure, not a probability or an extra signal. In Neutral, it returns to a quiet baseline.
Confirmation adds evidence.
Full confirmation requires price on the direction’s side of the value reference, RSI momentum, and volume-weighted close-location pressure to agree. Higher-timeframe agreement is also required when enabled.
What an expanding gray ribbon tells you.
Recent price ranges are growing while the model remains Neutral. That makes changing conditions easier to notice. Read the price movement and center-line slope alongside it, then check whether the state changes and confirmation follows. Expansion can accompany an upward move, a downward move, or choppy trading; it does not establish which comes next.
Where VWAP fits.
Turn on Value reference to see session VWAP on intraday charts. Daily and higher charts use a rolling 30-bar volume-weighted reference. Price above the reference supports Up confirmation; price below supports Down confirmation. Hiding the line does not turn off this check.
Read the arrows and badge.
A chart arrow marks the first full confirmation within a new directional state, so it can follow the color change. The badge shows direction, confirmation context, agreement out of three checks, and state age. Missing volume still allows price-based direction, but prevents full confirmation.
Choose your chart and display.
Use standard time-based candles or bars. The original settings were developed around five-minute charts; lengths now count your chart’s bars. Changing the interval changes behavior, and broader trading effectiveness is not established. Optional higher-timeframe confirmation uses the last closed bar of a strictly higher interval.
Direction, ribbon geometry, and halo commit at bar close. The optional value reference can move during the open bar. Choose the badge corner and Compact or Standard size in settings. Hide older Trend layers after adding v6, and recreate existing alerts for the new script.
These layers make direction, range, and confirmation easier to distinguish at a glance. They do not provide entries, exits, stops, or support/resistance levels.
Configure alerts.
- Add the indicator to your chart.
- Open TradingView’s alert dialog and select the TrendArc indicator and condition you want.
- Use Once Per Bar Close when the frequency option is available.
- Choose your notification method and create the alert.
Compass has four context-change alerts: Up, Down, Neutral, and Extended. Trend has five: Up, Down, Neutral, Up confirmed, and Down confirmed.
After changing the script or its settings, recreate existing alerts so they use the updated configuration.
If something looks wrong.
- No card: check the indicator’s visibility and badge setting.
- Cards overlap: place Compass and Trend in different corners.
- Compiler error: replace the entire editor content with the complete file, including the first line.
- Download opens as text: copy the full text, or save it as a .pine file.
- Missing Trend download: return through your Stripe completion link and retry on the download page.
